The Assistant Services Manager (ASM) is responsible to the Services Manager and may be employed in their role across any of the Services either on campus or within the community facilities.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
The ASM will be required to have:
· Registration with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) · Completion of SVQ Level 4 or working towards completion of SVQ Level 4 within SSSC registration timeframe · Knowledge and understanding of practice informed by ACES. |
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Additional desirable skills and qualifications include:
· Degree Qualification in relevant discipline · Psychology qualification · A full driving licence. · Counselling Skills · SVQ Assessor Award.

Key Attributes-
- Extensive residential childcare experience. Can demonstrate skills in supporting children and young people to achieve their individual education, health, and wellbeing outcomes.
- Experience of working collaboratively with families and external agencies to meet the needs of children and young people.
- Knowledge and understanding of current legislation and policy including St Philip’s School Strategic Plan, GIRFEC, the National Care standards, SSSC codes of conduct, The Promise, School Improvement Plan and UNCRC in their current practice.
- Will have experience of leading and supporting colleagues through mentoring, regular supervision, and quality assurance of case files.
- Will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate alignment to the school values of Trust, Support and Resilience
- Responsibility to ensure the development of a supportive and nurturing environment which is maintained daily to a high standard.
Main tasks-
- Ensure the effective development and understanding of care planning, focusing on identifying and progressing outcomes guided by our Side-by-Side process.
- Ensure the principles of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, Trauma Informed practice, GIRFEC and the National Practice model are implemented throughout the assessment and care planning process. Working collaboratively and ensuring the young person is at the centre throughout the process.
- Work in partnership with education staff to raise aspirations of all young people. Promote the extended learning experience and educational outcomes of young people.
- Support education staff to have a full understanding of young people’s outcomes within their child’s plan and share strategies to support the young people.
- Adopt a collaborative approach in all aspects of practice to ensure cohesive working with all colleagues.
- Take full account of policies and protocols that safeguard the health, well- being, safety and security of all children, young people, and staff within their environment.
Areas of Responsibility dependant on Stage of ASM, may include-
- Rota planning and service efficiencies.
- Identified aspects of Quality Assurance relevant to skillset.
- Absence management of identified grouping in line with St Philip’s School policies and procedures.
- Awareness of Health and Safety responsibilities including audits and inspections.
- Attend and contribute to Services Reviews as directed.
- Supervision and staff development.
- Identified Budget accountability.
- Responsibility for Duty role
- On-Call responsibility
- Involvement in recruitment and the selection of staff.
The ASM job description is not exhaustive and will require flexibility to undertake other duties and responsibilities as and when required by the organisation to meet service demands.

The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
